Susan Watson

Susan Watson was a beloved presence on the ferry to South San Francisco, where she worked as a biotech scientist. Known for her bright red jacket and the Stegosaurus-like spikes on her bicycle helmet, fellow riders recognized her for her constant smile, friendly chatter, and generosity.

On the ferry on December 17, 2013, Susan was her usual cheerful self, excitedly talking about her upcoming trip to Panama. Tragically, that evening, while riding home from the ferry in the bike lane on Market Street, she was struck and killed by a big rig truck. Her loss was a heartbreaking blow to everyone who knew her as the friendliest person on the ferry.

Susan's ghost bike went missing sometime after December, 2014. A replacement will be installed.

The intersection of 5th and Market Street is particularly dangerous. Cody Sisson was also killed here. Both were killed by trucks.
