From the East Bay Times:

An Oakland woman killed early Saturday in a collision between her bicycle and a car was identified Sunday morning as 53-year-old Suzette McGrand-Benakki.

An Alameda County coroner spokesman said McGrand-Benakki was on a bicycle in the intersection of 57th and Market streets in North Oakland when she and a vehicle collided at around 6:15 p.m. She was badly hurt and taken to Highland Hospital, where she later died.

A ghost bike was installed for Suzette shortly after her death, but it went missing. A replacement was installed in December 2024.

This stretch of Market Street is particularly dangerous. Peter Webster was killed just a few blocks away.
