The Oakland Traffic Violence Memorial Project is dedicated to remembering cyclists and pedestrians who were killed by traffic violence on the streets of Oakland, Berkeley, and nearby East Bay cities. Our aim in installing and maintaining memorials is to support those affected by these preventable losses, while advocating for safe street design and respect for all who use the streets.
This project was inspired by the NYC Street Memorial Project, which installs ghost bikes in NYC and until 2012 tracked ghost bikes in Oakland and worldwide. To get involved in advocating for safer streets in Oakland, check out Traffic Violence Rapid Response, Bike East Bay, and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland.
